News of the current health emergency can feel overwhelming—especially when you are also dealing with the stressful situation of buying or selling a home during the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic.
What can and should you do during this time?
If you’re selling during this national health emergency caused by the new coronavirus you first of all want to make sure that both you and potential buyers stay healthy, safe, and protected!
You probably already got your house in great shape for a sale—now you can go the extra step and make sure everything is disinfected. This will both keep you safe and put potential buyers at ease. Use disinfectant solution (bleach based or with rubbing alcohol) on all surfaces. Remember that, in order to kill all germs, you often have to let the cleaning solution sit for a number of minutes!
A great idea to put potential buyers at ease are dedicated hand cleaning stations with sanitizer or disinfectant wipes. In fact, why not go a step further and have pocket hand sanitizers available for visitors—a little gift everyone will be thankful for!
Additionally, as we are all expected to practice social distancing, take advantage of tools like virtual property tours. A virtual property tour is a great opportunity to let people experience your house without having to rely on physical showings alone.
For in-person open houses consider spreading them over a longer period of time and give yourself enough time to keep the house clean and disinfected.
For both buyers and sellers it is now important to be patient. As overwhelming as the situation might currently seam, the situation will improve over the next weeks and months.
As a seller, know that some sellers might simply choose to wait out the current health situation; you will still want to be on their radar when they’re ready to make the move.
As a buyer, if you feel overwhelmed give yourself the time you need—and partner with your real estate agent to find a timeline that works for you.
In times like these it’s important to connect with a real estate agent you can trust and who can put your health, safety, and happiness first.
